“Humility is the most difficult of all virtues to achieve; nothing dies harder than the desire to think well of oneself.” T.S. Eliot
Matthew 5:22-26
22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says,’You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire. 23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Agree with your adversary quickly , while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. 26 Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.
I know there could be a thousand sermons preached on vs 25 alone.
Agree with your adversary quickly. What kind of painful scripture is this? The Lord Most High telling me to agree with my adversary quickly? But I thought I was right? My thinking “I am right” is The Adversary. Unbelievable Grace if you can understand what God is proving. There is no one righteous, not one. Are we clothed in His Righteousness, absolutely which proves that we, above all people should be quick to tell The Truth about our sin and God’s Righteousness. But hey, go ahead and keep concerning yourself about how right You are. The pride in a man and woman’s heart are paramount. It’s that sneaky disease that likes to remain hidden but Christ reveals otherwise. His Word remains Alive and Active. We have conviction and must respond IF we are able. Dead people don’t respond to their sin, only Living people do. That’s The Gospel. Christ Lives, so therefore, so do I. There’s massive responsibility for such Great Grace!
God opposes the proud, but Gives Grace to the humble.
As a group of ladies got together in this study of God’s Word, we realized that Humility, the greatest of all virtues Is Christ Alone. Without Christ, there is no Humility. Everything is false humility, it cannot even be attained in our feeble attempts to try. We must die. “Humility is perfect quietness of heart. It is for me to have no trouble; never to be fretted or vexed or irritated or sore or disappointed. It is to expect nothing, to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing done against me. It is to be at rest when nobody praises me and when I am blamed or despised. It is to have a blessed home In The Lord where I can go in and shut the door and kneel to my Father in secret and be at peace as in a deep sea of calmness when all around is trouble. It is the fruit of The Lord Jesus Christ’s Redemptive work on Calvary’s cross, manifested in those of His own who are definitely subject to The Holy Spirit.” Andrew Murray

Joyfully His,
